How to use AI for ADHD, beyond settling an argument

Most people have tried AI by now. They asked it to settle an argument, or tidy up a post. Then they closed it, without ever learning how to use AI for ADHD.

That's about a tenth of what it's for. Nobody explains the rest. So here's how I use AI for ADHD, in my ordinary week.

The rest is your ordinary week

The renewal you keep meaning to check. The message you haven't answered. The thing you promised someone in March. That's where an assistant earns its keep, not in clever answers but in holding the small stuff your brain keeps dropping.

The difference is your notes

Here's the whole idea in one example.

Before, you ask AI to write an email to your landlord, and it asks you what to say.

After, you ask it to write that email, and it already knows. The leak in the back bedroom. The call on the 11th. The man who never came. It even remembers you hate sounding rude.

Nothing clever happened. It just read your notes.

What I use it for

  • Where was I? Coming back to a job after days away, and getting the next step straight away.
  • The message I've been putting off. A first draft in my voice, ready for me to fix and send.
  • Making sense of a document. The letter from the city. Eleven pages of insurance terms. What does it actually say?
  • Turning a ramble into a list. I talk for two minutes and get back a list, with the urgent things at the top.

It assists. I decide.

Assistive, not directive. Supportive, not generative. It remembers, sorts, labels and checks. It doesn't make my art, my music or my decisions.

What to do next

Start one note about your week: what's coming up, what's waiting, what you keep forgetting. Then ask an assistant one question about it. Watch how different the answer is when it has something real to read.

This is my own experience, not a doctor's advice. The kit is the setup that gives your assistant something to read.
